Why?
Pampa, my wife has always asked me to collect and store all my poems in one place.
Kathakali, my friend and constant inspiration for writing poems has always asked me to publish a book.
My precious flickr-sister Rumin has insisted for long time that I should have my works published.
Same has been the opinion of Aftab, my flickr-buddy, a wonderful writer himself, and a superb magician of photography whose each and every photograph inspires me to write a poem and have actually led me to write a few.
Very recently Suman, another superb photographer and writer himself insisted that I make a joint production with Aftab’s works.
On the other hand, Saibal who himself is a singer/lyricist/poet and a supporter of my writings (whatever I write) ever since he found them in flickr, is very happy that he can read them over the internet.
Well, I am shy about publishing my works on paper. And, most of my previous works are lost. So I thought that I would collect the latest ones in a personal website.
In the mean time, I received an e-mail from my flickr-friend Sajan. I was overwhelmed. He had written down a poem posted by me in my flickr site and read it to his wife as a birthday gift to her. When I was reading his letter, my eyes broke into tears. What else could I ask? What else could a writer ask from his/her readers? That moment I got the courage to make the site public.
Also, once again I realized that a moment can cover the entire life. A few days later that feeling started taking the shape. Finally one day this site got its name from that feeling and the feeling took the shape of the Bengali poem posted on the home page.
While writing these poems for last couple of years, time to time I have been presented with beautiful poem quotations by my friend Amar. Reading of those poems have given me the strength to continue my journey with poetry, even in this modern world of nano technology and super speed. For me it means a lot because writing a few lines of a poem - that's all what I want to do, at the end of the day that's all what I believe I could do.
Everyday while going through flickr I come across several wonderful photographs each of which inspires me to immediately sit down and create a poem. On the other hand, several of my flickr friends expect my photos to be posted with a poem of mine. As a result, most of my poems are based on the subjects I faced either while posting my own photos in flickr or enjoying other photographer’s works posted in flickr. So, this site will contain my poems and the related photos. Until I have the permission from a photographer to publish her/his work here, I’ll put a relevant link for that photo, if available.
Most of the poems are in Bengali, my mother tongue; some are in English (so that my daughter and non-Bengali/Bangladeshi friends can read at least some of my works) and a few are in Portuguese (so that, my Brazilian flickr friend Mara can enjoy them).
Creations wait for critiques. I have a few too. My daughter Anwesa has never hesitated to open her mind in analyzing my poems. I am so lucky that when read out to her, she can understand my Bengali poems too. Another of such critique is my friend Arup. Discussions with people like them are very precious to me.
Aftab smiled at my plan of creating this site. I believe he approved it :)
And, Suman has promised that he will support me very strongly. :))
So, here is the site holding a collection of my writings over last couple of years.
I have just started putting them here. It will take me a while to bring all of them together.
Hope, some of you will like some of these works.
I wish I could show this site to my mom! I hope someday my brothers will see it.
This site is dedicated to:
Pampa, Kathakali, Anwesa, my family in India, Saibal, Sajan, Rumin, Nishi, Aftab, Amar, Arup and all of my flickr friends whose works and expectations have inspired me to create the contents of this site.
